Tommy Miah's Raj hotel gave me and my boyfriend a cosy feeling. The room was little, but very comfortable, and we had the opportunity to have dinner once at the hotel. The food was very well made. The decoration is simple but very welcoming. The staff was really nice all the time and corresponded to every need.

We've stayed in the Raj many times, but most recently a 4 day stay, Thur - Mon. As always from the minute we arrived to the minute we left our stay was great. Great service, lovely spacious room, excellent location. The value for money at the Raj is second to none and all of the staff cannot do enough for you, they are much more helfpul and friendlier than many we've found at larger chain hotels. Breakfast is continental and adequate for anyone's needs. The hotel is situated between either Angel or Highbury & Islington tube stations and there are many shops and supermarkets along the Essex Road. We're getting married in Islington in Sept & have guests who've opted to stay here and we know they'll be well looked after!

Location is excellent, service is extremly nice, I travel a lot and I do really aprecciate kindness. The hotel itself is cute and cozy, the rooms are indeed very pretty and the bathrooms are large, which is always a good thing. It is very cheap acctualy for the location. It is clean and I must say the beds are very comfortable. In the rooms, there are even water boilers for coffee and tea, with sugar, tea and coffee also there. I will always return back to this hotel if I am in London.

Despite there being no smoking signs in the hotel, our room (and our section of the hotel - hallways etc) was very smoky when we first went in, and we had to open the windows for a couple of hours to air it out. The breakfast was just continental; cornflakes, toast and crumpets and fruit, but there was plenty of it.

The staff were really helpful, and the evening meal we had in the restaurant was really good. However, the rooms were quite small and not really suited to guests with more than a small amount of luggage. Also, the beds should have better (ie firmer) mattresses.

It was an average accomodation service for London, well communicated by public transport although reaching the tube needed to use the bus first or walk for 20 minutes. As nearly everything in London, a little bit expensive as you pay a real hotel price and you get like a good hostel accomodation service, nothing else!!

I didn't spend much time in the hotel other than to sleep, so can't comment on service. Location was great (for me, near my work and some great cafes). The room was tiny, I was amazed that the door would close. It does have an ensuite, so for those just wanting a bed and some privacy it's fine. The room was very clean and comfortable despite it's size. Summary: Good location, clean, small(!), good value. Would stay there again.

The hotel is in a good position. There is buses, underground and train that connect with the city centre. The room is pretty but too narrow. The bathroom is clean but there's no shelfs and the washbasin is a little inconvenient. On the whole I've liked to stay in this hotel. Bye! Alice

The location was excellent and service at reception good.. The rooms were smaller than expected and short on space for storage, no dressing table/draws and no trouser hangers. Bathroom was clean and tidy. The walls were very thin and people banging doors was very annoying late at night, it felt like they were comming into our room. Would perhaps consider again for location, but was dissapointed with the room.

“An Excellent 5 days spent in London”
By Mrs Brid S, Rijnsburg, Netherlands
19 September 2011
I was in London doing a course and stayed for 5 days. I really wanted to have a bathtub in my room and since the single was gone I opted for the family room. I must say this room was excellent for me and the bathroom was up a few steps and so not intruding on the room as you find in so many hotels. The staff were very helpful and even have a 24 hour taxi office next door. I availed of their services a few times and felt as though I was travelling and staying with family. A truly lovely experience.
Can't wait to go back to Islington. Another participant of the same course as me, stayed in a much more pricier hotel and didn't get clean towels, just goes to show you don't always get what you pay for.

Tommy Miahs Raj Hotel on the Essex Road in Islington is a perfectly good value but decent quality hotel in North London. It's extremely well served by public transport from Angel tube station [which, by the way is on the Northern line not the Victoria line] and is only 5mins away from all the bars/restaurants that area offers. It's also very close to Essex Road train station which takes you straight into the City eg Moorgate. The room was clean, the shower room was perfectly adequate [if a little small] and the bed was fine though the mattress was a tad thin. To be honest, for the cost and taking into consideration it's in a very handy location in London, this is a good value hotel for a short stay.

The hotel was easy to find and very well located to see a gig at Islington Union Chapel, the staff were friendly, the room small but clean and perfectly adequate, and the breakfast, though no cooked option, was good and plentiful - with a range of cereals, bread and lovely croissants, jams, etc, tea and coffee and fruit juice. I would definately stay here again.

We spent 5 nights at your hotel, nearly one month ago and it was nice. Really very kind people, nice hotel and rooms even though very easy and basic. I loved to have breakfast and watch the street from the big windows.
Islington is a beautiful zone, the buses stop in front of the hotel, easy to reach the centre and pleasant to walk around even in the evening. Many restaurants nearby. If I come to London again, I'll stay for sure at your hotel!
