Hampstead Heath
London
London's largest ancient parkland Hampstead Heath is situated between Alexandra
Park and Regents Park and the London districts of Hampstead and Highgate. London's
version of Central Park, it is 790 acres in size with hilly and wooded areas and
is used for a number of activities.
Go there for a picnic, go for a swim in the swimming ponds, fishing, and on summer
evenings enjoy one of the music concerts (mainly classical) that are held overlooking
one of the lakes.
There are also playgrounds, a training track, volleyball court, three open-air swimming
pools and over 25 ponds. Parliament Hill is one of the highest points in London
and gives you a panoramic view of Central London on a clear day and is also a great
place for kids to fly kites.
Hampstead Heath is popular with all kinds of sports activities, from runners (it
is regarded as the home of cross-country running in Britain) and swimmers to kite-fliers
and walkers -it is perfect for all kinds of activities.
For the London tourist, Hampstead Heath will give you a hint of what the southern
English countryside looks like if you haven't got time to get outside of London
and it is frequently used as a TV and film location as a double for the real thing.
