The National Gallery
The National Gallery
London
Founded in 1824, the famous National Gallery on the northern side of London's Trafalgar Square houses one of the greatest collections of Western European paintings in the world.
On display are over 2,300 paintings covering every European school of painting from the 13th to the early 20th century.
The collections belong to the public of the United Kingdom and entrance to the National Gallery is free. The collections include works by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Renoir, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
Famous paintings on display include Vincent Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers', Constable's 'The Hay Wain', 'The Virgin of the Rocks' by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt's 'Self Portrait at the Age of 34'.
There are regular exhibitions at the National Gallery and special lectures, video and audio-visual programmes, guided tours and holiday events for children and adults.
