Tower of London
Tower of London
London
Situated on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, the Tower of London is a historic symbol of London that was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 as a fortress, royal palace and a prison. The UK's leading historic visitor attraction, the Tower of London has witness almost one thousand years of British history and there are plenty of secrets, myths and legends to be discovered here.
Also used as a place of execution and torture, it was at the Tower of London where Anne Boleyn was executed, Guy Fawkes interrogated and Richard II and Elizabeth I incarcerated. One of the must-see highlights of a visit to the Tower of London is to view the famous Crown Jewels which have been held in the Jewel House since 1303. Marvel at the world's largest, top-quality cut diamond, Cullinan I, which is set in the Sovereign's Scepter, and the wardens can answer questions about the priceless collection.
The famous White Tower, which dates to around 1078, houses displays from the Royal Armouries' collection and includes armours worn by Henry VIII and Charles I. It is recommended you allow around 3 hours to see everything at the Tower of London.
