Hampstead
The picturesque and historic area Hampstead is located 4 miles north-west of Charing
Cross, and can be reached on the tube easily as it's just a few stops from the centre
of London. Famous for the hilly parkland
Hampstead Heath, Hampstead is the perfect place
to spend a day strolling around, exploring the streets and lanes, admiring the beautiful
architecture and enjoying the views over London from the
heath. With a Georgian character, Hampstead features
800 acres of rolling heath land and is an ideal, quieter and more relaxing London
destination away from the hordes of tourists.
Considered to be part of Inner London as it is in the London Borough of Camden,
Hampstead is home to some of the most expensive houses in the London and has more
millionaires than any other area of Britain. Most of the buildings in Hampstead
are from the 17-18th century, and has been home to many famous people including:
Peter O'Toole, George Orwell, Peter Sellers and Agatha Christie. The famous poet
John Keats also lived in Hampstead and his former house is open to the public and
includes many personal effects. Celebrity-spotting is among one of the things to
do in Hampstead, and with hundreds of small and unique shops, a diverse range of
restaurants, traditional pubs and trendy bars, there is plenty to keep all amused.
