At 390 acres Hyde Park is the largest park in central London and one of the most popular. It has been a royal park since Henry VIII seized it from the monks of Westminster Abbey in 1536.
A tranquil, green paradise and stark contrast from the busy streets of London, Hyde Park is the perfect location for a picnic or relaxing walk on a summers day.
With over 4,000 trees, a lake - the Serpentine, a meadow and horse rides, there is something for everyone in Hyde Park.
Speakers' Corner, an area where public speaking is allowed at the Marble Arch corner of the park is an area set aside for anyone who wishes to speak or preach about anything. Always busy on a Sunday, Speakers' Corner is highly entertaining and a diverse experience.
The Serpentine is a large lake in the middle of Hyde Park suitable for boating and bathing and was created in the 18th century. It is ideal way to cool off on a hot summers day! Other facilities at Hyde Park include a playground, The Lookout - a nature and wildlife education centre and toilets, including those for disabled people. Throughout the year Royal Gun Salutes are performed in the park to mark special occasions, such as the Queen's birthday, and there are plenty of events take place in the park such as guided walks.
